Experiences
What alumni say
Just a selection of what our alumni shared with us:
"Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it!!! It is SUCH a rich experience both professionally and personally. It is a place where I could be fully human, with ups and downs, flaws, strengths, and be fully supported on all that. The team of coaches is brilliant and warm and they were always be there to support and push me!
All the projects demanded something different. They allowed me to develop other aspects of my professional side that I wasn't familiar with. They allowed me to surprise myself with a beautiful growth at the end.
On a nutshell, Co-Design is a stamp in my life! I will forever cherish with a so much love the time I had there. I can only wish the same experience for everyone!"Mafalda Coelho, Global Design, IADE Lisbon - 2023
"Co-Design will change your life. It takes your love for creation and combines it with usefulness and application in real life needs, in the end contributing to the world we are building. Every area can take part of it, and for me that is the beauty of it. Everyone in their own way can provide something of themselves and their perspective. I couldn’t recommend it more. Thank you Co-Design!"
Mariana Reis, Global Design, IADE Lisbon - 2023
"The Co-Design minor made me look at the way we design spaces from a completely different point of view. It made me realize, for example in a commercial project, it is not only who hires you as a designer whom you have to please. You have to consider all the users of the space and what your client wants to achieve and then start the usual design process with everyone in mind.
This minor will make you see the design process of any sort in a different way and will test your abilities to work in teams with people that have different approaches to you in a fun way. You won’t regret it, you will meet amazing people and get to know the Dutch culture first hand."
Brenda Casados Chouza, Interior Architecture and Design, Vancouver Island University, CA - 2019
"Co-Design Studio had given me the opportunity to think differently about solving problems. As a mechanical engineer it helped me work in multidisciplinary teams and to think outside of the box with very technical problems. Every project is different but when you are able to apply different methods you can recognize the best approach towards the solution."
Jeroen Faddegon, Mechanical Engineering,
HU University of applied sciences Utrecht, NL - 2018
"Co-Design is more than just learning design skills and working with students from different backgrounds. It’s a completely different way to learn through real projects and studio, working independently without the usual lecturer supervision.
Co-Design brings out so much creativity and different ideas in you. It’s not like the usual university course, with a range of real-life projects and some amazing people this is completely unique. The way of working really helps to broaden your imagination of how to solve projects and also what’s possible with the resources and time available.
From the start, Co-Design is so creative, there’s never a dull moment at any time through the whole semester. If you’re from abroad, it’s a perfect way to spend a year in a different, awesome country, learning about different cultures and how to live somewhere new.
If you’ve got the opportunity, there’s no reason not to join Co-Design, learning new ways to create and meeting friends you’ll never forget."
Ollie Guild, Transport Product Design,
Aston University Birmingham, UK - 2018
"To me, the strength of the program is in the people choosing the program: you're not lazy if you sign up for something that warns you for a 40h+ workweek (although I took that with a grain of salt, shouldn't have done that). And the coaches; they all know what they're talking about. They all have different areas of expertise so there is always somebody you can relate to."
Rianne Schaekens, Communication and Multimedia Design,
Avans University of applied sciences Den Bosch, NL
"I felt very engaged. I've never put this much time, energy and effort in school while still enjoying it. I think that's a good sign."
Aftaab Elahi, Industrial Product Design,
HAN University of applied sciences Arnhem, NL
